As part of Perth Airport’s multi-billion-dollar investment programme, a major expansion and upgrade of Terminal 2 have commenced.

The works include new self-service check-in facilities, an expansion of the current passenger screening facilities and departure lounge, and an extension to the baggage make-up hall.

Design works to upgrade the southern passenger walkway is also underway.

Perth Airport CEO, Jason Waters, said that the works are a timely investment in response to the significant growth in passenger numbers at the Australian gateway.

He enthused: “These works are critical to support our growing regional passenger base as it will almost double the passenger capacity within Terminal 2.

“We’ve seen significant growth of regional passenger numbers with with an increase of 3.7% on last year seeing numbers grow from 6 million to 6.24 million.

“This growth is positive for the Western Australian economy and the resource and regional tourism sector and showcases the importance of Perth as an aviation hub.

“This expansion is more than just additional space — it’s about enhancing the customer experience and delivering our airline partners the capacity and efficiencies they need to grow their businesses.

“With these changes and upgrades, passengers will see significant construction works within the terminal which may cause some inconvenience. We will be working with our partner contractor Hoskins on complex staging and logistics to ensuring minimal disruption throughout construction.”

Walters added: “As part of a major Capital Project works program to enhance the passenger experience at Perth Airport, we are also building new carparks, roads, and upgrades to our retail and food & beverage offering – all within a live operating environment.

“Extensive planning work is being done on the sequencing and delivery of these major projects to help minimise this unavoidable inconvenience.”
