SSP has revealed more details about its seven-year deal to operate a number of restaurants and cafes at Indonesia’s Kualanamu International Airport.
The new outlets – located airside in the airport’s domestic terminal and operated by joint venture PT SSP Taurus Gemilang Indonesia – will feature popular international names such as Burger King and Dairy Queen, alongside Malaysia’s largest halal-certified coffee name OldTown White Coffee.
The new deal will add further momentum to SSP’s entry in the important Indonesian market, following the announcement of the joint venture with Taurus Gemilang and the commencement of operations at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali, Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, and Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan International Airport at Balikpapan.
CEO of SSP Asia Pacific, Jonathan Robinson, said: “Following our announcement to enter into the Indonesian market last year, we are delighted to have secured this new contract to bring some truly great dining options to even more passengers in Indonesia.
“We very much look forward to working with our joint venture partner Taurus Gemilang in bringing the best food and beverage options for customers at Kualanamu International Airport.”
Commenting on the announcement, Kedar Deshpande, director of commercial and business development PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi enthused: “We’re thrilled to elevate the airport experience at Kualanamu International with new food and beverage options for our guests.
“This partnership brings a curated mix of local favourites and top Asian brands to travellers. We’re excited for passengers to enjoy this fresh culinary experience and thrilled to partner with a leading F&B brand operator SSP and PT Taurus Gemilang through their joint venture.”
Kualanamu International Airport is managed by PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi, the joint venture with PT Angkasa Pura & GMR.
The fifth largest airport in Indonesia, it welcomed around eight million passengers in 2019.
While most of the airport’s traffic is domestic, international travellers account for just over a quarter of all passengers. It is well connected by rail to the city of Medan, which is 23 kilometres from the airport.
Medan is the largest city of North Sumatra, with an urban population of around five million.
