MoU to enhance passenger journeys across Thailand’s airports

Share

Amadeus, Thai Aviation Industries (TAI) and Edgewater Solutions Limited have signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) outlining their intention to collaborate on a roadmap for the modernisation of the passenger journey and day-to-day airport operations across Thailand’s airports.

Through the collaboration, the parties will look at how seamless travel, biometrics, airport operations, and data capabilities could work together to help airport stakeholders coordinate operations more effectively and improve passenger flow across key touchpoints.

The move comes as Thailand continues to invest in airport capacity and service quality to support growing demand for air travel and tourism.

Thailand airports handles around 140 million passengers annually, the majority through Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, with volumes expected to keep rising.

Areas of collaboration include:

•Faster passenger processing – including self service and off-airport check-in, automated bag drop and real-time baggage reconciliation.

•Seamless identity and border flows – including e-Gates, biometrics and identity verification and free-flow passenger processing.

•Smarter airport operations – including a centralised Airport Operational Database (AODB), resource management, flight information displays and apron and ground-movement management.

•Real-time data and platform integration – connecting passenger journey analytics and operational data to support faster decision-making and more dynamic airport operations.

“Thailand’s airports are vital gateways for tourism and trade. Modernising them is central to our ambition to deliver a world-class experience for every passenger and strengthen Thailand’s position as a leading aviation hub in Southeast Asia,” stated ACM Piboon Vorravanpreecha, managing director, of TAI.

“Working with Amadeus and Edgewater gives us access to leading technology, services and knowledge to enhance the journey through Thailand airports while making our operations more efficient and resilient.”

While Amadeus Asia-Pacific’s executive vice president and managing director, Javier Laforgue, noted: “Airports are under pressure to serve more passengers while delivering smoother, more reliable journeys.

“This collaboration is about connecting the technologies, data and partners needed to make that possible.”

Under the MOU, the parties will now work together to define the detailed scope, phasing and technical specifications for potential deployments across the identified solution areas.
