Fifth anniversary for Hong Kong’s AVSECO Canine Unit

Hong Kong International Airport today marked the fifth anniversary of the establishment of its AVSECO Canine Unit (ACU).
The event also showcased the development of ACU and highlighted the achievements of AVSECO’s collaboration with the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF), Customs and Excise Department (C&ED) and the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) over the past five years.

Lo Wai-kwok, chairman of AVSECO board of directors and AAHK board member, enthused: “Over the past five years, ACU has remained steadfast in its mission to safeguard aviation security, and its achievements speak for themselves.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to HKPF, C&ED, AAHK and AFCD for their unwavering support and professional guidance, enabling ACU to develop its professional capabilities continuously.
“I am confident that ACU will continue to uphold the highest professional standards. The team will also strengthen exchanges and collaboration with its partners to enhance our overall response capabilities together. ”

While AAHK CEO, Vivian Cheung, noted “With the commissioning of the Three-runway System and Terminal 2, passenger traffic at HKIA continues to grow.
“We are fully committed to supporting the professional development of the ACU, reinforcing its critical role in safeguarding the airport and HKIA’s position as one of the world’s safest and most efficient international aviation hubs. “
Established in 2021, the ACU has been dedicated to safeguarding the security of HKIA. It currently comprises 20 professional detection canines responsible for patrol duties at non-restricted areas of HKIA for explosives, firearms and ammunition detections.
According to AAHK, the dogs also serve as friendly and approachable HKIA ambassadors to welcome travellers from around the world.
