The Year of the Pig began in style at Hong Kong International Airport earlier today as airport staff joined passengers to celebrate the first day of the Chinese New Year.
Special guest, Carrie Lam, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administration Region, joined airport CEO, Fred Lam, and Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) chairman, Jack So Chak-Kwong, at the airport to mark the occasion.
Other VIPs included Raymond So, acting secretary for transport and housing; Simon Li, director general of Civil Aviation, and representatives from the government departments operating at HKIA.
They were treated to a number of traditional Chinese songs and dances.
During the Chinese New Year holiday period, the airport will arrange Lion Dance performances, while the God of Fortune Meet and Greet will meet and greet passenger in the Meeters & Greeters Hall, the Central Concourse of Terminal 1 and Midfield Concourse.
To cater for the increasing number of passengers, AAHK has deployed additional staff to provide assistance to passengers, while some retail and catering outlets will also extend their service hours.
The number of security screening channels will be increased if needed.
Public transportation services to and from the airport, including the Airport Express Line and some public bus routes, will add frequencies and extend the operating hours. Meanwhile, the frequencies of the high-speed ferry services at SkyPier will also be enhanced.
