Healthy traffic rise across Sweden’s airports in May

Share

Traffic across Sweden’s airports continued to rise in May, although international air travel to some extent was influenced by global events such as the ongoing situation in the Middle East.

In total more than 3.1 million passengers passed through Swedavia’s 10 airports during May – 3% more than during the corresponding month last year.

International travel across its network increased by roughly 3% and domestic travel by around 2%.

Swedavia notes that all its airports showed an upturn in traffic compared to May 2024, although the increase varied locally between the airports.

According to the Swedish airport operator, the positive development in May was driven by continued demand for primarily international air travel, despite the impact of ongoing global conflicts.

Stockholm Arlanda Airport, Sweden’s largest airport, led the way by welcoming 2.2 million passengers in May (+2%) followed by Göteborg Landvetter Airport, which handled around 500,000 passengers (+4%), boosted by a 6% increase in international travel which compensated for a 10% decline in domestic travel.

Swedavia’s remaining eight airports all showed a positive trend in May, although with local variations. Visby Airport, followed by Malmö Airport, were two of the three airports which showed the strongest increase – 26% and 11% respectively on May 2025.

The development in May at Visby Airport was driven by increased domestic travel, while the development at Malmö Airport was driven by increased international travel.

Bromma Stockholm Airport had a total of just over 12,000 passengers in May, corresponding to 5% of pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
