Albania’s Tirana International Airport (TIA) handled more than a million passengers in a month for the first time in June when a record 1,067,405 travellers passed through its facilities.
The airport notes that “this outstanding figure” marks a 61.6% increase on last year’s June total of 667,521 passengers.
The bumper month means that the airport experienced remarkable growth in the first half of 2024, welcoming 4.7 million compared to 2.8 million passengers during the same period in 2023.
It attributes the impressive upturn to TIA’s expanded capacity, improved services and strategic investments to improve the passenger experience.
Also, the choice of destinations has been significantly expanded, both in well-known European cities and in distant destinations. Some of the new, more prominent destinations are Nice in France, Rhodes and Heraklion in Greece, Barcelona and Valencia in Spain, Bucharest in Romania, Bodrum, Antalya and Istanbul in Turkey, Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates as well as a wide variety large number of destinations to Italy and other European countries.
The growing success of TIA is dedicated to Kastrati Group’s strategy to expand and modernise Tirana International Airport through infrastructure investments, strategic partnerships with airlines and continuous improvements in customer service.
“Exceeding one million passengers and more than 5,850 aircraft movements in a single month is not only a testament to the hard work and dedication of all TIA employees and professionals, but proves that the essential investments made in the infrastructures airport, terminal expansion and security equipment, are delivering the expected results,”
“At TIA, everyone is committed to providing the highest standards in the operation of the airport, respecting safety regulations under the supervision of the Albanian Civil Aviation Authority,” says the gateway’s operations director, Piervittorio Farabbi.
“Tirana International Airport has made important strides by having the fastest growth from the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic, offering an excellent service and expanding the network of destinations.
This has already positioned the airport as a major aviation hub in the region.
