Hamburg Airport is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its dedicated cargo centre, which effectively transformed air freight operations at the gateway.
The airport described the construction and May 30, 2016, opening of Hamburg Airport Cargo Center (HACC) as taking an important step into the future.
And history has proven it right as the €50 million building replaced the old cargo terminal from the 1960s and created an infrastructure that continues to form the basis for efficient, fast and reliable processes to this day.
The approximately 60,000 square metre site has 44 loading ramps, 36 truck parking spaces and three office buildings. The centrepiece is the approximately 20,000 square metre air freight hall.

“Over the past ten years, the Hamburg Airport Cargo Center has grown into a strong community of around 40 tenants and 450 employees,” says Alexander Müller, head of office and logistics at Hamburg Airport.
“Together, we ensure that a wide range of goods find their way around the globe quickly, safely and reliably. This anniversary is therefore also an opportunity to thank all partners and employees who have been filling the Cargo Center with life since 2016.”
The HACC primarily handles time-sensitive goods – from spare parts for the aviation and maritime industries to shipments for the mail-order sector, medical technology, chemicals and pharmaceuticals.
It handled around 68,400 tonnes of cargo in 2025 as freight volumes effectively returned to pre-pandemic levels, with Emirates, Deutsche Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, Air France and KLM all playing a key role in its success.
