Enhanced passenger processing comes to Bermuda

US Customs and Border Protection has announced the introduction of Enhanced Passenger Processing at Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport.

It notes that this advanced process is designed to significantly improve security and streamline the preclearance experience for US citizens departing for the United States.

EPP leverages sophisticated facial comparison technology to deliver a touchless, secure, and efficient inspection process for US citizens.

CBP officers use auto-capture cameras and biometric facial comparison technology to rapidly verify identity and citizenship, conduct law enforcement vetting, and create a crossing record.

The launch of EPP at CBP Bermuda Preclearance marks a pivotal moment in our ongoing commitment to national security,” said acting port director, Marissa Singh, of CBP Bermuda Preclearance.

“This technology not only significantly strengthens security measures but also delivers a faster and more modern departure experience for US citizens travelling to the United States.

“By leveraging cutting-edge capabilities, we are better equipped to identify and mitigate potential threats, allowing our officers to provide more focused attention to each traveller. With EPP in place, this will also streamline the movement of all other processing queues.”

The EPP process verifies a passenger’s identity within seconds, allowing US citizens to move securely through the inspection process and proceed directly to their boarding gate.

It also enhances security by enabling the officers to focus on the traveller interview rather than on administrative tasks.

Skyport, the operator of L.F. Wade International Airport, invested in bringing EPP to Bermuda after seeing the system’s benefits firsthand during a visit to the US Preclearance operation at Aruba’s Queen Beatrix International Airport.

“Skyport is committed to investing in technologies that support frictionless travel for all passengers,” enthused president, Aaron Adderley.

“Enhanced Passenger Processing represents another step forward in modernising the airport experience and delivering a smoother, more efficient journey for US citizens departing Bermuda.”

EPP is also available at other CBP Preclearance airports, including Calgary, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Halifax, Dublin, and Aruba.
