Fraport AG adds third Brazilian airport to global portfolio

Global airport operator Fraport AG has added Jericoacoara Airport (JJD) in north east Brazil to its network.

Wholly-owned subsidiary Fraport Brasil S.A. Aeroporto de Fortaleza, operator of Fortaleza Airport (FOR) in Brazil, has officially assumed operations of the gateway.

The new addition of means that Fraport AG now operates three airports in Brazil – Jericoacoara, Fortaleza and Porto Alegre.

The airport concession was awarded under the Brazilian government’s AmpliAR programme, which allows for regional airports to be integrated into existing concessions.

Jericoacoara Airport is now part of the existing concession for Fortaleza Airport (FOR), with the concession period running until 2047.

The concession includes the operation of the passenger terminal, as well as additional landside and airside infrastructure such as retail and parking facilities.

As a result, Fraport Brasil S.A. Aeroporto de Fortaleza has committed to investing in the modernisation of the airport over the next three years.

Andreea Pal, CEO of Fraport Brasil, said: “Jericoacoara Airport supplements our existing airport portfolio and opens up additional development opportunities within the Fortaleza concession.

“With our planned modernisation measures, we are laying the foundation for sustainable growth, strengthening connectivity to one of Brazil’s most popular holiday destinations, and promoting economic and tourism development in the region.”

The area around Jericoacoara is part of one of Brazil’s most visited national parks. It is known for its expansive beaches, breathtaking sand dune landscapes, and spectacular lagoons.

Due to regular trade winds, the region is also a popular destination for kite- and windsurfers. Jericoacoara is often referred to simply as “Jeri”.

All three of Brazil’s major airlines serve JJD (LATAM, GOL, and Azul), which handled approximately 260,000 passengers in 2025 – a rise of 23% on the previous year.
