Frankfurt Airport (FRA) welcomed 4.9 million passengers in October 2022, an increase of 45.3% year-on-year.
With the autumn school vacations occurring in the reporting month, FRA experienced particularly strong demand for holiday travel, specifically for flights to popular destinations in Turkey, Greece and the Canary Islands, while services to the Caribbean “continued to see robust demand”.
The October upturn ensured that Frankfurt Airport’s recovery from the global pandemic continues to pick up pace, although passenger numbers are still 23% down on pre-pandemic levels for the month.
Elsewhere across Fraport AG’s global airport network, Slovenia’s Ljubljana Airport (LJU) registered 93,020 passengers in October 2022 (up 62.2% year-on-year); Fraport’s two Brazilian airports of Fortaleza (FOR) and Porto Alegre (POA) saw combined traffic increase to one million passengers (up 12%) and Lima Airport (LIM) in Peru served around 1.8 million passengers in the reporting month (up 49.5%).
Traffic at its 14 Greek regional airports soared 16.7% to 2.8 million passengers for the month. As a result, combined traffic figures for its Greek gateways continued to surpass pre-crisis levels in October 2022, growing by 11.4% compared to October 2019.
