Munich Airport handled 19.8 million passengers in the first half of 2025, a rise of 3.6% on the same period a year ago.
The German attributes the upturn to “the high and continuing demand for air travel”, particular on intercontinental routes, with passenger numbers climbing by 9% and US traffic alone accounting for 1.5 million travellers.
Traffic to and from Asia also increased significantly, reaching new highs. More than one million passengers flew to Far East destinations and arrived in Munich during the first six months of 2025.
The most frequented destinations were Bangkok, Singapore, Tokyo, and Beijing. Currently, the airport offers a total of around 230 connections worldwide, including 55 long-haul destinations.
With an absolute growth of 700,000 passengers, Munich Airport (MUC) remains one of the fastest-growing airports in Germany.
The airport also recorded a 7.6% rise in air freight volumes during the half year, handling around 161,000 tons of cargo.
MUC notes that Pentecost holidays contributed significantly to the strong results of the first half of the year, accounting for 2.3 million passengers and approximately 18,000 flights – 6.5% up on January 1 to June 30, 2024 year.
