A joint venture between Gebr. Heinemann and travel catering firm Casualfood, smartseller, has taken over the retail and F&B business at Bremen Airport.
Under the terms of the 10 year concession, smartseller will initially operate a duty-free shop and an adjacent food & beverage outlet at the German gateway.

“Together with Bremen Airport, we want to bring the region’s distinctive character into the new space and create an offering that is firmly rooted in the location.”
The spaces in the main terminal are scheduled for conversion in early 2027, when the shop and F&B outlet will be combined into a single unit of around 880 square metres ahead of a planned opening for the second quarter of 2027.
The project is based on smartseller’s ‘You Are Here’ concept. The idea is that travellers should already sense of place at the airport with retail and food & beverage offerings including regional products from local partners, design elements that reflect each location.
In Bremen, the goal is to create a distinctive space with regional character. A children’s area will also make the stay more pleasant for families.
In a further expansion step, an additional space will be added from April 2029. It will mainly expand the food & beverage offering and will be fully integrated into the overall concept. This will bring the total area to around 1,000 square metres.
The contract win means that smartseller now operates at four German airports – Bremen, Münster/Osnabrück, Leipzig/Halle and Nuremberg – at Ljubljana Airport in Slovenia.
