Korean Air upgrades cargo terminal at Incheon International Airport

Korean Air has completed the modernisation of its cargo terminal at Incheon International Airport, launching a fully integrated ‘Smart Terminal’ equipped with advanced automated logistics systems.

This infrastructure upgrade, combined with advanced digital technology and next-generation fleet orders, is designed to reinforce Korean Air’s competitive edge in the global air cargo market.

The upgrade has introduced automated technologies across terminal handling operations. Central to it all is the deployment of Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and new Elevating Transfer Vehicles (ETVs).

By expanding bypass infrastructure from a single line to dual automated transfer lines integrated with the new ETVs, the terminal has increased its hourly Unit Load Device (ULD) processing capacity from 18 to 30 units.

Overall, the terminal’s total cargo handling capacity is projected to increase by more than 25% as a result of the facelift. The airline is also expanding specialised facilities to handle high-yield, special cargo.

“This renovation is an essential step to proactively respond to the rapidly changing global logistics environment by upgrading equipment and integrating smart technologies,” states Korean Air.

Korean Air is one of the top global cargo carriers with a global network that spans 116 cities in 39 countries, supported by a freighter network covering 45 cities in 26 countries.

The airline has a fleet of 166 aircraft, including 23 dedicated freighters. Its cargo fleet includes next generation Boeing 777F and 747-8F freighter that deliver higher fuel efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions.

Korean Air Cargo owns and operates a state-of-the-art cargo terminal of 100,000 square meters at its main hub at Incheon International Airport (ICN), and has dedicated cargo terminals in New York, Los Angeles, Narita and Osaka.
