Gebr Heinemann has extended its long-standing partnership with Hamburg Airport for at least another decade after extending its travel retail concession until 2037.

Their joint success story began in 1993, when Gebr Heinemann opened its first Duty Free shop at Hamburg Airport. Today, both partners combine strong Hanseatic roots with a shared commitment to enhancing the international travel experience.

“Our partnership with Gebr Heinemann is built on mutual trust and a shared vision to continuously improve the passenger experience at Hamburg Airport. Together, we have achieved a great deal over the past 32 years,” stated airport CEO, Christian Kunsch.

The airport’s managing director, Berit Schmitz, noted: “And we’re far from done. With this contract extension, we are paving the way for exciting new ideas and strong future prospects – all in the interest of our passengers.”

From Heinemann’s perspective, chief sales officer, Florian Seidel, enthused: “We look forward to further developing our successful collaboration with fresh momentum – always with the ambition to continuously enhance the shopping experience for travellers.”

A diverse retail offering at Hamburg Airport

Gebr. Heinemann opened its first Duty Free shop at Hamburg Airport in 1993, coinciding with the launch of Terminal 2 (then Terminal 4). With the opening of the Airport Plaza in December 2008, the company quadrupled its retail space and inaugurated a 1,400-square-meter flagship store directly behind the central security checkpoint.

Today, it operates two Heinemann Duty Free & Travel Value shops at Hamburg Airport, offering internationally renowned brands.

The portfolio also includes the concept store ‘Destination Hamburg’, featuring modern souvenirs, fashion, delicacies, and Nordic gift ideas.

Additional stores include a Heinemann Accessories shop with bags, leather goods, jewelry and watches from premium labels, the ‘Heinemann Sunglasses’ store with a wide selection of high-quality sunglasses, and the exclusive Montblanc boutique.

Regularly changing pop-up stores from international brands – most recently Swarovski – add further variety to the shopping experience.
