Airport staff to undergo compulsory COVID-19 testing in Hong Kong

Share

Hong Kong International Airport is to launch COVID-19 testing schemes for airport staff who are subject to the requirements stipulated in the government’s compulsory testing notice issued today.

The Hong Kong Government’s notice requires that everyone employed at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) or providing a hired service in the airport area between now and the end of March must undergo a PCR nucleic acid test for COVID-19 (the Specified Test) from today until February 25.

Four Dedicated Testing Centres for airport staff will be set up at North and South Transition Deck at Terminal 1, South Commercial Carpark, and Temporary Truck Park at the airport.

Airport operator, Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK), notes that the tests are free of charge, but that staff must obtain a Test Registration Form from their employers and present the form at the centre in order to undergo the test.

Bookings for test service at HKIA can be made online at https://airportstaff-covidtest.com/ starting today.

Hong Kong International Airport employees are also encouraged to take the Specified Test at downtown locations.

After the one-off compulsory test, voluntary regular tests will be available from March onwards for specific groups of airport staff, including those carrying out quarantine procedures for arriving passengers, staff handling cold chain logistics and aircraft cabin cleaners at HKIA.

The airport authority adds that it has been “closely communicating with business partners on the test requirements and details of implementation” with a view to protecting the health of airport staff and users.
