The latest traffic figures from global airport operator, Fraport AG, show that its network of gateways enjoyed a good September with passenger numbers rising by 2.7%.
The 6.1 million passengers handled at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) during the month represented a 1.6% upturn on the corresponding period a year ago.
It notes that FRA benefited from the summer school vacations still ongoing in the neighbouring German states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg during September, ensuring demand for traditional leisure destinations remained strong throughout the month.

Across the group, most of the airports in Fraport’s international portfolio reported growth during September. Traffic at Slovenia’s Ljubljana Airport (LJU) surged by 16.6% year-on-year to 205,495 passengers.
In South America, Fraport’s Brazilian airports recorded a total of 1.2 million passengers. This figure include Jericoacoara Airport (JJD) in northeastern Brazil for the first time, following its recent addition to Fraport’s global network.
Fraport’s existing Brazilian airports, Fortaleza (FOR) and Porto Alegre (POA), achieved a combined growth rate of 2.1% year-on-year in the reporting month.

Traffic at Lima Airport (LIM) in Peru rose by a robust 10.5 % year-on-year to around 2.3 million travellers.
In Europe, Fraport’s 14 Greek airports were used by 5.7 million passengers in total, up 4.2% year-on-year, while the Bulgarian coastal airports of Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR) between welcomed 554,292 passengers – 8.6% up on September 2025.
The only downside was a 1.7% dip in passengers at Antalya Airport (AYT), the Turkish Riviera welcoming around 5.1 million passengers during the month.
All added up to a total of 21.1 million passengers (+2.7%) passing through its global airport network in September 2026.
