Solid September of traffic growth for Sweden’s airports

Solid September of traffic growth for Sweden’s airports

In total, just under 3.2 million passengers travelled through Swedavia’s ten airports, an increase of just over 2% compared with September 2025.

International travel increased by 3%, while domestic travel was largely unchanged compared with the previous year, according to Swedavia.

The development was primarily driven by continued growth in international travel within Europe.

At the same time, domestic travel was almost on a par with last year, declining by just under 1%. Supply in the domestic market decreased at a faster pace than demand, contributing to higher load factors.

Among the largest domestic markets, Gothenburg is now the only market where there is no competition.

Swedavia notes that despite the uncertain global environment, demand for travel has remained relatively stable so far.

However, looking ahead to the winter season, it says that uncertainty is increasing, with rising oil prices and higher cost levels potentially affecting both demand and capacity in the market.

Stockholm Arlanda Airport, Sweden’s largest airport, had just under 2.3 million passengers (+2%) in September. International travel increased by just over 3% to just under 1.9 million passengers, while domestic travel decreased by just under 5% to just under 380,000 passengers.

Göteborg Landvetter Airport, Sweden’s second-largest airport, had just over 530,000 passengers in September.

This represented largely unchanged passenger traffic compared with September last year. International travel increased by just over 1% to just over 482,000 passengers, while domestic travel decreased by just under 8% to just over 48,000 passengers.

Swedavia’s other airports showed positive development during September. Visby Airport recorded the strongest percentage growth during the month, with an increase of just under 12% compared with the corresponding month in 2025.

The development at Visby was driven by increased domestic travel. Ronneby Airport, Åre Östersund Airport and Malmö Airport also developed positively, with increases of just over 8%. 7% and just under 6%, respectively, compared with September last year.

Bromma Stockholm Airport had a total of just over 14,600 passengers in September, corresponding to approximately 7% of pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
