TAV Technologies expands in South America
TAV Airports subsidiary, TAV Technologies, has expanded its operations in South America by adding new projects in Chile and Panama to its portfolio.
The projects will support the digitalisation efforts of Sanitago’s Arturo Merino Benitez Airport and Tocumen, Pacifico, Enrique Adolfo Jimenez, Scarlett Martinez, and Enrique Malek airports in Panama.
The signing ceremony in Chile was attended by Nicolas Claude, chairman of the executive board of Nuevo Pudahuel, the operator of Santiago Airport, and Franck Mereyde, TAV Airports executive board member and chair of its executive committee.
TAV Technologies CEO, Kerem Öztürk, said: “The successful partnerships in Panama and Chile highlight TAV Technologies’ ability to deliver reliable solutions and services, strengthening its position as a trusted leader in airport technology innovation.
“As we grow globally, we understand that our valued customers trust our 24/7 support and technical capabilities. We proudly provide modern solutions to streamline airport operations and passenger processes in Panama and Chile.”
TAV Technologies, certified as an R&D centre in Istanbul, has developed more than 40 software solutions and acts as a master integrator.
In Santiago, it will deploy its Airport Operational Database (AODB) for data integration, an Information Broker system for real-time data exchange, a Resource Management System for efficient resource allocation, a Slot Coordination & Management System for optimised traffic flow, and a Billing System for transparent financial management.
The agreement in Panama covers everything from installing Airport Operation Information and Common Use Passenger Processing systems to Airport Collaborative Decision Making.
Arturo Merino Benitez Airport, the gateway to the capital of Chile, served 23 million passengers last year. Tocumen Airport, serving Panama City, is the busiest hub in Central America, accommodating 18 million passengers last year.
Reno-Tahoe’s new Ground Transportation Center
Conrac Solutions, owned by leading sustainable infrastructure asset manager Meridiam, has been awarded the Public-Private Partnership (P3) project for the new Ground Transportation Center (GTC) at Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO).
The airport believes the $300 million project and new collaboration with Conrac/Meridiam shows its commitment to enhancing the travel experience, strengthening sustainability initiatives and improving public safety for millions of passengers annually as part of the MoreRNO Infrastructure Program.
The facility will be energy efficient and electric-vehicle-enabled in the future, contributing to a lower overall carbon footprint for the airport. The relocation of rental car fleets to the GTC will also have the added benefit of freeing up more parking space for airport visitors in RNO’s parking garage.
WSP to play role in ATL Concourse D expansion
Engineering, environment and professional services firm, WSP, is serving as programme manager for $1.4 billion project to expand Concourse D at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
It is providing support for an innovative modular construction plan at the world’s busiest airport aimed at increasing the 44-year-old Concourse D’s footprint, widening it from 60 feet to 99 feet and extending its overall length by 288 feet.
“The terminal expansion is a combination of modular construction and traditional construction,” said Edmund Ramos, vice president project management at WSP and deputy Concourse D project director.
“We saw a real efficiency in building the modules on a remote site at the airport, while, at the same time, working on the needed foundation and utility relocation works at the concourse.”
A total of 19 modules will be set in place as part of a multi-phased construction schedule. This method, notes WSP, will keep as many gates open as possible during construction.
“No one else [in the US] has done what we are doing – a project of this scale combining modular and typical stick build construction while keeping a concourse operational. It’s a total team effort,” noted Chris Rogers, senior vice president aviation engineering at WSP and programme manager for the Atlanta airport ATLNext Capital Improvement Program.
When completed, Concourse D will have 34 aircraft designed Group III gates that accommodate larger aircraft and provides 20% more seating at peak period.
Radar technology to reduce CO2 emissions
Munich Airport, in collaboration with Assaia International AG, has announced the successful completion of a four-month test utilising innovative radar technology to monitor and encourage the use of ‘Single Engine Taxi’ (SET) procedures.
SET, a practice where aircraft taxi using only one engine, has the potential to significantly reduce CO2 emissions and noise pollution on the ground.
During the test period, a radar system was installed at Terminal 2, strategically positioned to align with incoming aircraft. The technology works by detecting vibrations emitted by the aircraft’s engines, allowing the system to determine whether SET procedures are being followed.
Christian Hen, CEO, Assaia says: “At Assaia, every day we work to make global aviation more efficient, sustainable, and safer through the latest technologies. The test in Munich is another milestone on the way to a fully digitalised airport.”
