Munich Airport reports healthy traffic increase in 2025

Share

Traffic numbers continue to rise at Munich Airport with 43.4 million passengers (+4.4%) passing through the Bavarian gateway in 2025.

The airport also recorded a 3% rise in air traffic movements, handling a total of 337,000 takeoffs and landings during the year.

Once again, European and intercontinental traffic were the main growth drivers, with traffic to European destinations and the Mediterranean region growing by 4.3% and long-haul traffic by 8.5%

Munich Airport’s route network expanded in 2025 to include 232 destinations in Germany and 71 other countries worldwide served by 96 airlines, including five all-cargo operators.

The positive trend continued in the cargo sector, with air freight volume rising by 10% to 340,000 tons, which is 2% above pre-COVID levels.

Despite continued strong passenger growth and external factors such as weather-related disruptions and airport operational restrictions due to drone sightings, Munich Airport further improved its on-time performance in 2025.

Indeed, its punctuality rate rose to over 75%, placing the airport among the top three major hubs in Europe in terms of punctuality.

The introduction of state-of-the-art CT scanners at security checkpoints has also helped to increase passenger throughput.

“The positive traffic development for 2025 shows that Munich Airport is growing dynamically and consistently expanding its services,” enthused airport CEO, Jost Lammers.

“This means that our hub remains an important junction for our passengers. In addition to providing secure jobs at the airport, Munich Airport also contributes to the region’s enormous economic importance as a cargo hub.

“The airport is a driving force behind the region’s economic growth and prosperity, as well as that of the entire state of Bavaria.”
