Busy October of traffic growth for Copenhagen Airport

Busy October of traffic growth for Copenhagen Airport

Traditionally a busy month for Copenhagen Airport, a total of 3.2 million passengers (+4%) passed through the Danish gateway last month.

It notes that many Danes travel during week 42, when schools are closed for the autumn half-term, while Swedish schools have their autumn break, known as höstlov, in week 44.

“We can clearly see the impact of the autumn holidays at the airport, and October was the sixth consecutive month with more than three million passengers,” enthused chief commercial officer, Peter Krogsgaard.

“There are more destinations than ever on our route map, giving travellers plenty of opportunities to explore the world while also making it easy for international visitors to travel to Denmark.”

Danes accounted for 34% of all passengers at the airport, while Swedish travellers accounted for 14%.

In October, around 280,000 passengers travelled between Copenhagen and one of 13 destinations in Spain. This made Spain the most popular country for travellers, with passenger numbers up 6% compared with last year. Malaga, Barcelona and Mallorca top the list of Spanish destinations.

In October, 127,000 passengers travelled between Copenhagen and one of 10 destinations in the US, making it the most popular long-haul destination.

New York is by far the most popular, followed by San Francisco and Boston. One in three passengers travelling between Copenhagen and the US flies to or from New York.

The airport notes that the airlines will serve 232 direct routes from Copenhagen this winter with the number of new routes including Mumbai and Krabi and Phuket in Thailand in December.

In addition, Air Greenland has started flying direct to Ilulissat, while the winter programme also includes new connections to destinations including Liverpool, Newcastle and Baghdad.
