Brisbane Airport is marking a historic milestone today, recording the busiest day in its 100-year history.
A combined total of 82,779 passengers are passing through the Domestic and International terminals, setting a new overall record.
This unprecedented surge is driven not only by Brisbane Lions fans traveling to Melbourne for the AFL Grand Final and NRL fans arriving for the Broncos’ semi-final against the Panthers, but also by the kick-off of school holidays in New South Wales, bringing many visitors to Brisbane.
“No matter the result for Brisbane’s teams on the field this weekend, Queensland is already a winner with more people flying into Brisbane than leaving, boosting jobs across the state’s tourism industry,” said Brisbane Airport spokesperson Peter Doherty.
A forecast 60,682 passengers are travelling through the Domestic Terminal today and 22,097 through the International Terminal.
“We know when Brisbane Airport is busy, Queensland is thriving, and the terminals are humming these holidays. In the past year, the markets with the biggest growth in annual passengers have been Japan, New Zealand and mainland China.”
Brisbane Airport has direct flights to 35 international destinations and is Australia’s most connected domestic airport, flying to 62 airports.
It’s currently investing A$5 billion over the next five years as part of its Future BNE transformation.
