Over 2,000 runners today competed in the first ever fun run at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
Organised by airport operator GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL), runners either competed in five or ten kilometre races on courses that started and ended near the gateway’s Novotel hotel.
According to GMR, the maiden ‘Hyderabad Airport Run’ was an ever greater success as it involved runners from the airport, Hyderabad and across India.
GHIAL CEO, SGK Kishore, alongside other dignitaries from the airport community started the run, with up to 4,000 guests, some of which had the rare opportunity to visit the airport’s Aircraft Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities, Flight Simulation Centre and inflight caterting complex during the event.
All runners to complete the course were presented with medals, the winners also receiving a trophy and some money!
GMR notes that Hyderabad’s own Capricio band kept the audience “hooked post the run with peppy medleys of popular numbers and foot-tapping music”.
Visitors were also able to enjoy the host of entertaining activities laid out at the venue, including a flea market, fun zone for children, food stalls and other activities.
SGK Kishore said: “We are thrilled to host such a large gathering that includes over 2000 runners and their families and friends.
“The event, which is unique in many ways, was sketched to bond with all the stakeholders of the airport community and create a connect with the people of Hyderabad.
“We are thankful to all the participants, our sponsors and the dedicated organizers who made this possible. The success of this event encourages us to now make it an annual feature.”
