The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) today announced that United Airlines will begin operations at five new gates of the new eastern concourse of Terminal B at LaGuardia Airport this weekend.
Today also marks the unveiling of a brand new United Club, located on the second level of the new concourse, which opened last December.
The first United Airlines passengers will arrive at the new gates on Sunday evening, June 2nd as the airline begins operating roughly 40 flights a day, serving key business cities like Denver and Houston.
With United moving to the eastern concourse, 16 of the 18 new gates will be in operation, with the final two gates scheduled to open in 2020.
The 250,000 square-foot and light-filled new concourse opened in December 2018 with its first 11 gates servicing Southwest, Air Canada, and American Airlines flights.
Featuring 55ft floor-to-ceiling windows, the new concourse has impressed travelers with its architecture, spacious gate areas, modern amenities and an array of locally-inspired dining and retail.
“The opening of five new gates and a state-of-the-art United Club is a major step for the LaGuardia Airport redevelopment,” said PANYNJ chairman, Kevin O’Toole.
“We are that much closer to completing the first new airport in 25 years. The transformation of LaGuardia Airport is not only going to modernise our airport but improve the customer experience as well.”
Stewart Steeves, CEO of LaGuardia Gateway Partners (LGP), the private entity operating and redeveloping LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B, enthused: “Welcoming United into the new concourse is a major step towards completing our vision for a top-class visitor experience at LaGuardia.
“United travellers can now experience the choice food and retail options in the Eastern Concourse, and we’re excited to continue our progress towards transforming Terminal B into a modern gateway New Yorkers can be proud of.”
PANYNJ executive director, Rick Cotton, noted: “The move of United and its passengers into the first new concourse at Terminal B marks another key milestone of the $8 billion redevelopment of an entirely new LaGuardia Airport.
“This is another important step in our ongoing commitment to provide world class facilities that turn Governor Cuomo’s vision for a 21st Century LaGuardia into reality.
“And we are undertaking this comprehensive rebuilding of LaGuardia Airport while continuing full operation at LaGuardia and serving record numbers of passengers.”
Since its opening, the new concourse has been a welcome sight, offering travellers ample natural light, more than a dozen new shops, restaurants and services.
Restaurants located in the new concourse include popular New York establishments such as Shake Shack, La Chula, Osteria Fusco, Kingside and Irving Farm Coffee.
Retail venues include an FAO Schwarz toy store, McNally Jackson independent bookseller and District Market, which includes ‘Made in Queens’ products through a partnership with the Queens Economic Development Corp.
