Charity runway run at Aberdeen Airport raises funds for charity

Share

The seventh annual Midnight Runway Run at Aberdeen International Airport has raised an impressive £71,000 for charity.

Held at midnight on Saturday, 20 June 2026, the longest day of the year, the unique 4km run once again saw 400 participants given the opportunity take to the illuminated runway for an unforgettable experience.

Now firmly established as one of the North East’s most distinctive fundraising events, the Runway Run continues to grow in both scale and impact.

The funds raised will support Aberdeen International Airport’s charity partner, SAMH, and CHC Helicopter’s chosen charity, Lifestars, alongside a wide range of additional causes selected by participants through the GiveWheel platform.

Runners were able to direct 30% of their fundraising to a charity of their own choice, with more than 80 additional charities supported this year.

This year’s total surpasses last year’s £65,000 and brings the event’s cumulative fundraising total to more than £320,000 since its inception.

Robert Paterson, operations director at Aberdeen International Airport, said: “Raising £70,000 is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the generosity and enthusiasm of everyone involved.

“Hosting the event on the longest day of the year made it even more special, with a brilliant atmosphere from start to finish. We’re incredibly proud to work with CHC Helicopter, our headline sponsor Bilfinger, and all our partners to deliver such a unique event that makes a real difference to charities across the region.”

Ryan Broadhurst, CHC Helicopter captain and event founder, added: “It’s amazing to see how much the Runway Run has grown over the past seven events. Every year the support from the community gets stronger, and this year’s total is our biggest yet.”
