Traffic continues to rise at Amman’s Queen Alia International Airport

Jordan’s Queen Alia International Airport is on target to handle around eight million passengers in 2022 after reporting that it handled 7.1 million travellers passed through its facilities in the first 11 months of the year.

The total to date is 75% up on the same period last year but still 13.2% down on its pre-COVID high, when it finished 2019 by handling 8.9 million passengers.

Nicolas Claude, CEO of operator, Airport International Group (AIG), said: “Although passenger figures for November 2022 remained slightly below those reported during the same month in 2019, the gap is being reduced by new passenger profiles.

“These are mainly tourists arriving thanks to the efforts of the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB), which recently launched the ‘Kingdom of Time’ campaign across Europe, promoting Jordan as a tourist destination.

“Groupe ADP also supported the marketing efforts of JTB by sharing the campaign across its Parisian airport network, showing an example of our collaborative efforts to bolster tourism and air traffic into the Kingdom.”

The Amman gateway handled 619,000 passengers, 5,272 aircraft movements and 5,072 tons of cargo in November 2022 – 32%, 6.6% and 1.8% up respectively on the same month last year.
